The Texas Medical Center is the largest medical complex in the world by employment, and the continuing-education, symposium and fundraising calendar it generates is a steady source of planner work that most people outside the city never think about. Non-profit gala work tied to hospital foundations is unusually well funded here.
Houston is also one of the most internationally diverse metros in the United States, and the social market reflects that. Multi-day South Asian weddings, quinceañeras and Nigerian and Vietnamese celebrations are mainstream rather than niche, and planners who genuinely understand one of those traditions (rather than treating it as a variation on a standard wedding) do not struggle for work.
