Event planning jobs in Atlanta

Atlanta is the convention hub of the Southeast, with one of the largest contiguous exhibition footprints in the country and the busiest passenger airport in the world feeding it. Add a fast-growing film industry and a deep corporate base, and it is one of the easier major markets for a new planner to build in.

What the work actually pays here

Reported pay for event roles in Atlanta. Read it as a range, not a promise, the top of a range is a senior planner with a portfolio, not a first job.

Who hires in Atlanta

Employers

Venues worth knowing

  • Georgia World Congress CenterAround 1.5 million sq ft of exhibition space; among the largest in the United States.
  • Mercedes-Benz StadiumMajor sporting and corporate hospitality events with substantial premium space.
  • The Fox TheatreHistoric 4,600-seat Midtown theatre used for galas, awards and large private events.
  • Cobb Galleria CentreSuburban convention and banquet space that takes much of the mid-size regional business.

The Atlanta market

Atlanta punches above its cost of living. The Georgia World Congress Center draws national association and consumer shows year-round, and the airport means an Atlanta meeting is cheap for delegates to reach from anywhere in North America, which is why so many rotating national conferences land here. For a planner, that translates into a genuine volume of salaried convention-services and meeting-planner roles rather than a market that runs mostly on freelancers.Source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Outlook Handbook, checked July 24, 2026

Film and television production has added a second, less obvious stream of work: wrap parties, premieres, location hospitality and craft-services-adjacent event coordination. It is not the same as planning a conference, but it pays well and it hires people who can run a schedule under pressure.

The social market is strong and, unlike several other major metros, still has room for new independents. Atlanta's Black wedding and event market in particular is large, well established and commercially serious, with a supplier network that a planner has to earn their way into rather than assume access to. Cost of living means a practice here reaches break-even on a much smaller book of business than it would on either coast.

When Atlanta hires

Convention traffic runs almost year-round with peaks in spring and autumn. Wedding season is long (March through June, then September through early November) with July and August too humid for most outdoor work. Late December is genuinely quiet.
