The Seattle market
Technology money sets the terms in Seattle. In-house event teams at the large employers run programs that would be agency work anywhere else, and the salaried roles they offer are among the best paid in the profession, but they are advertised as program or marketing roles, hire against corporate competencies, and expect fluency with internal tooling rather than a planning portfolio. The convention market is smaller than the metro's economic weight suggests, though the Summit expansion has changed what the city can bid for. Association business here skews medical, technology and maritime. Independent planners tend to build around corporate offsites and the launch calendar rather than chasing convention work.
Wedding season is short and the competition for it is fierce. Reliable outdoor weather runs roughly July to mid-September, which concentrates most of the year's social work into about ten weekends. Planners who can sell a good indoor winter wedding, or who work the Woodinville wine country and the San Juan Islands as destination markets, spread their income across the year in a way that the purely Seattle-based planner cannot.
When Seattle hires
Corporate and convention activity runs steadily from September through May, with technology conference season concentrated in spring and early autumn. The wedding market is compressed into July, August and early September. November through February is dark for outdoor work and heavy on internal corporate events and holiday parties.
